Historic rifles seized from Pakistani army in 1971 war to arrive in Kolkata

A collection of rifles seized from the Pakistani Army during the 1971 India-Pakistan war is set to arrive in Kolkata this week. The rifles, which have been kept in Tekanpur, Madhya Pradesh, are being brought to Kolkata by the initiative of Biplab Roy, Administrator General of West Bengal and official trustee.

The weapons will initially be displayed in a designated room on one floor of Nav Mahakaran in Kolkata before being transferred to a new museum constructed by the state government.

These historic rifles have remained in different parts of the country since the Indian Army confiscated them during the 1971 war. Notably, the weapons have never been brought to Bengal before this initiative. Biplab Roy, along with the state government trustee, successfully appealed to the Union Home Ministry for the transfer of these valuable artifacts. The Center approved the request on September 11, and after a year of efforts, the weapons are now en route to Kolkata.
